The Art of Holy Island

John Tierney is an oil painter whose life and work are deeply rooted in the beauty and quiet spiritual pull of the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

Having discovered painting unexpectedly in 2001, John found himself compelled by what he calls his “little corner of heaven,” where inspiration seemed to rise unbidden, and the brush often moved faster than thought.

His work, once housed in the Impressions of Holy Island gallery, now continues through this online space. His artwork reflects a soulful response to the landscape, shaped by intuition, coincidence, and moments he describes as “playing with the angels.” Today, John continues to create and share his prints and paintings with collectors near and far.

  • On Earth as it is in Heaven

    On our return home we have had the print of " On Earth as it is in Heaven", framed.

    It now hangs pride of place in our hallway.

    We both regularly discuss what a complete emotional wreck I was when hubby beckoned me into the gallery to view the artwork he had viewed from the window. I stood in amazement just staring at the image on the canvas. I can't explain what happened to me and I have never experienced anything like it, a piece of artwork has never moved me to tears before.

    We visited Holy Island again this Easter and made our second purchase of one of John's beautiful paintings; Heavenly Light.
